About this Green glue stuff
Couple of quick observations about Green Glue.
- It's messy and really sticky. It also dries incredibly fast on your skin and is painful to get off your legs so wear long pants when you apply the stuff.
- Green Glue changed the way I approached cutting and hanging drywall for the better. The first layer had about 15% waste. I'm now running much leaner than that. In order to keep track of how many tubes of Green Glue to use, you have to try and visualize all your drywall cuts in sheets. Two tubes per sheet so now when I look at a new sheet, I make all the cuts I can from it so that measuring the Green Glue needs is easier. End result is much less waste.
- Don't forget to cut out ALL your light and plug sockets before you put the glue on the drywall. Made that mistake once and only once. See observation number 1 for reinforcement of this idea.
- A corollary to number 3 is test each piece of drywall with a gang box hole to make sure it fits right, take it off the wall and then put the glue on.
Pictures to come Friday as I continue with the second layer. Finishing touches to the drywall like corners and such go up this weekend. Ceiling goes up next weekend. It would happen this weekend but I need more drywall and I want to know how much more 1/2" drywall I'll need as well before I start so this weekend will be spent getting supplies. I'm looking at putting up the ceiling as the official midway point in the project. It's also the end of the really labor intensive stuff on the project as well.
